    Dealing with Tooth Decay

    February 4th, 2011
Everyone knows you’re supposed to visit your dentist twice a year to get your teeth cleaned and to get your mouth examined.  This isn’t just for the dentist’s sake; regular visits to your dentist can help stop painful
problems in the future.  If you’ve ever had a toothache before, you know how bad they can get.  Don’t wait until you have a bad toothache to make an appointment to me today. My name is Dr. Peter Fry and my office is located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, Chicago, Il.

Regular Dentist Visits Prevent Unnecessary Tooth Decay

A toothbrush just can’t replace going to the dentist, no matter how many times you brush. One great benefit of seeing the dentist is the fact that we can even spot problems caused by incorrect brushing. So if you rely on brushing your teeth for dental health, you still need to see a dentist too.

It’s very important a brush your teeth at least twice a day, and don’t forget to floss too.  Taking these good, precautionary measures is not enough to really keep your teeth as healthy as they can be.  To really fight against tooth decay it’s important to visit your dentist and get regular cleanings.  If you’re searching for a dentist, remember, my name is Dr. Peter Fry, and I serve the Chicago area.

If you’d like to set up an appointment or consultation give my office a call at 773-545-1414, or if you prefer to set up an appointment online all you have to do is click here.

What You Need to Know about Gingivitis or Gum Disease

    January 19th, 2011
For a long time only dentists were aware of the condition called gingivitis.  Thanks to a plethora of toothpaste commercials in recent years, it seems that everyone is now aware of this condition.
Gingivitis is not to be taken lightly.  This degradation of the gums can be an indication of more serious underlying health problems.

I am Dr. Peter Fry and I’ve see hundreds of people in my Chicago office suffering from gingivitis and often don’t even know that they have it. One telltale sign of gingivitis is receding gum lines.

If you’ve noticed that your gums are receding and you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, it makes sense to visit a dentist as soon as possible. If you live in the Chicago area, you can drop by my office at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646, I’d be happy to assist you.

Gingivitis Can Lead to Tooth Loss

A regular dental appointment not only stops tooth loss caused by decay, it also stops tooth loss related to gingivitis. As the gums become more diseased and weakened, tooth loss is inevitable. There are things that can be done to stop gingivitis, but you have to go see a dentist as soon as possible. So if you want to keep all your teeth and have noticed receding gums, get to the dentist soon.

    Underlying problems

You may not know this, but gingivitis can be an indicator that a person may suffer from a stroke or heart attack in the near future.  My job as a dentist is to keep people healthy.  This doesn’t just stop with your teeth.

So if you live in Chicago, Il and think your teeth are all right but your gums have been receding, please make an appointment to see me today at my Chicago office.

Suffering from Bad Breath? A Dentist Can Help

    January 3rd, 2011
You know, it’s very common to be told that you have bad breath, but it can be a real blow to your self-esteem.  Now maybe it’s just because you had garlic bread for lunch, but there could be more serious causes to your bad breath.  I’m dentist Dr. Peter Fry, and believe it or not, questions about bad breath are very common for dentists to hear. What people don’t know is that bad breath doesn’t always indicate that someone does not brush their teeth or that they have a penchant for garlicky foods.
In fact, there are many potentially serious causes behind bad breath.

    Bad Breath is Embarrassing

Besides the possibility of serious problems, bad breath is just plain embarrassing. It is so awkward to have bad breath and to have to go into social situations. Many people don’t know this, but even a small amount of tooth decay can cause some serious breath issues. This is just another reason why visiting me, Dr. Fry  for a checkup and cleaning is so very important.

Bad breath can actually be a blessing to some, in that the social stigma can force many people to finally make a dentist appointment. Don’t let it get bad before you visit a dentist; it is something that everyone should do to avoid potential problems.

One of the most common causes for bad breath is gingivitis.  Commonly known as gum disease, gingivitis can be a very serious indicator of underlying health problems, so if you have bad breath it’s a good decision to visit my Chicago office.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been to the dentist or if you don’t have a regular dentist to visit, my office is located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, Chicago, Il.  You can also call me at 773-545-1414 to set up an appointment or click on this link to schedule a consultation with me, Dr. Fry.

    Root Canal

    December 26th, 2010
There are few word combinations that cause fear and anxiety, like ‘root canal’. Though this is a common dental procedure, it seems to make most people very nervous just think about it. Like most things related to the dentist, most of these fears are
understandable, but really unfounded. Today there are more types of pain methodology available for dentists to use than ever before. If you’ve been diagnosed as being in need of a root canal, you may be a little bit worried, but there’s no need to worry. My name is Dr. Peter Fry, and my dental office is located at ~~4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207~~ Chicago, Il.

Root canals are common part of my job and I treat many patients in my Chicago office.

    Root Canals Can Be Intimidating

Many people have suggested changing the name of the root canal because it has so many negative connotations for people. Unfortunately, if you change the name, you can’t really change the process. At my Chicago office I take care to perform every root canal with precision and care. I don’t want any of my patients to be more uncomfortable than they have to be. My goal is always to alleviate pain whenever possible to make my patients’ visit pleasant.

While no dentist can promise an absolutely pain-free root canal, modern uses of medication and relaxation techniques can help to ease the burden and reduce the fear and pain. The best advice anyone can give you when dealing with fear of pain at the dentist is to keep a relaxed and open mind.

I, Dr. Fry am a professional and I have the expertise to help you get through these procedures with minimal pain and quick recovery times. Click here to make an appointment online, or call my office at 773-545-1414. I can help you with your root canal. Do not delay and take action today.

    What is General Dentistry?

    December 2nd, 2010
We all know that we’re supposed to visit the dentist at least twice a year.  In fact, your parents probably told you this since you were a little child.  Unfortunately most adults don’t get a chance to visit the dentist every six months.  If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, it’s important to find a dentist you can trust.

My name is Dr. Peter Fry, my office is located at ~~4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207~~ Chicago, Il.  I understand some people’s apprehension about visiting the dentist, but it is really necessary for everyone in order to maintain good health.  That’s right: regular dentist visits help keep your teeth and the rest of your body healthy.

Some people get confused by the different types of dentists out there.  There’s general dentistry, surgical dentistry and many other specialty fields.  So what is general dentistry? If you’re familiar with doctors and the concept of a general practitioner, that same concept applies to general dentistry.  Chances are if you visited a dentist for most of your life that dentist is a general dentistry practitioner.  Most of your dental needs can be met by a general dentistry practitioner, though you may be referred to a specialist for some specific issues.

No matter what your dental problems are, you should always start out with a dentist who is skilled in general dentistry. If you need additional dental care, a good dentist has all the resources necessary to point you in the right direction. I have seen thousands of patients at my Chicago office and will be happy to assist you with any dental problems that you may have.

If you haven’t been to the dentist for a while and are looking for new dental office give me a call at 773-545-1414, or click here to schedule an appointment with my office today.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Laser Dentistry

    November 24th, 2010
There’ve been a lot of great breakthroughs in recent years in the field of dentistry.  Like every other field of medical technology, dental care has seen some great things happen over the past few years.  I’m Dr. Peter Fry, and people ask me all the time about laser dentistry services.
Some people even picture high-tech science fiction laser guns and get a little intimidated.  There’s really no reason to get intimidated about laser dentistry, in fact laser dentistry makes life easier on the patients and the job easier for the dentist. Some of the laser techniques that are commonly available make everyday procedures quicker and less painful for patients.

    Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry makes many common procedures much easier to perform.  For patients this is a big benefit. I know that no one wants to spend more time undergoing dental procedures than they have to. That’s where laser dentistry can really benefit patients.

Many dental procedures can be performed significantly faster than with traditional methods.  What’s even better about laser dentistry techniques is the fact that recovery time is sped up for many dental procedures.  Laser dental techniques also make stitches unnecessary in many cases where they would have been previously required.  This is a big benefit for both the patients and dentists.

To put it simply, laser dental techniques can make your next dental procedure easier to perform, and provide you with a much shorter recovery time. That’s good news, no matter how you look at it. It’s an awesome thing when breakthroughs in technology make life easier for people and take complicated procedures and make them less burdensome.

If you’re looking for a new dentist or if you’re curious about laser dentistry, please call my Chicago office at 773-545-1414 or click here to schedule an appointment.

    All About Dentistry

    November 8th, 2010
What would you do today if you had time to do anything at all? I’m guessing that most of you didn’t answer “go see the dentist.” That’s not unusual; most people avoid going to see the dentist unless they have problems. For those of us in the dentistry field, that is a concern. Not so much that those who practice dentistry want to be first on your list of things to do.
I’m a dentist, and have my office at Chicago, Il, and I’ll admit that seeing the dentist is not on the top of my list for things to do in my spare time, but I do make time for it on a regular basis because I know how important skilled dentistry services are to my health and well-being.

Not only does seeing the dentist regularly keep your smile looking great and your mouth clean and healthy, it can also detect the early signs of other, more serious health issues.

Dentistry is Key to Your Overall Health

Taking care of your teeth is so important to your health that it’s a shame more people don’t take the time to do it. You can’t get by on brushing and flossing alone. While these steps are important, there’s more to dentistry than simply brushing twice a day.

A skilled dentist such as me, Dr. Fry, can help you when you have problems such as cavities or chipped teeth.

Quite simply put, seeking skilled, professional dentistry services such as the ones that I offer at my office located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646 is crucial if you want to stay healthy.

If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, or if you are looking for a new dentist, please click on this link. You can set up an appointment to see me Dr. Fry at my Chicago office. I look forward to meeting you.

Cosmetic Dentistry – An Option To Consider

    October 31st, 2010
We all want to look and feel our best. If you’ve lost teeth or suffer from any kind of unsightly dental condition, you know just how difficult these things can be. It can be a great blow to your self-esteem when your teeth are not all they can be. I see people with all kinds of tooth problems on a regular basis at my Chicago office located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646.

My name is Dr. Peter Fry,

I’m a leading dentist serving the Chicago area, and it’s my job to help my patients keep their teeth healthy and strong. Sometimes you can do everything you’re supposed to do and still suffer from tooth loss. The good news for people who have had to deal with these types of issues is that cosmetic dentistry has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years.

You Don’t Have to Settle for Dentures

Tooth loss used to mean that you either dealt with not having a tooth or you got dentures. There simply were not a lot of options. Today, however, cosmetic dentistry has a few more things that can be done for people who have lost teeth. There are dental implants available that can replace a lost tooth. These implants look and feel like a real tooth and patients love the feeling they get from having one put in and being able to avoid dentures. This is just one procedure that cosmetic dentistry can help you with. There are also easier ways to fix crooked or uneven teeth, and some great new ways to whiten your teeth for a more attractive smile. If you’ve thought about cosmetic dentistry but have some questions, please click on this link to set up an appointment with me.

You can also call my Chicago office at 773-545-1414 to talk with me about your concerns. Cosmetic dentistry just might be the right solution to the concerns that you have.

Seeing Your Dentist Is About More Than Cleaning Teeth

    October 23rd, 2010
A lot has changed in health-care over the past few years. There has been a lot of talk in the media about some of the major breakthroughs in surgical techniques and preventative care.
What you might not know is that these advances in general health-care are seen in dental care too. Dentists like me, Dr. Peter Fry, are on the front lines of seeing some very major improvements to people’s health by simply cleaning their teeth and examining their mouths.
The foundation of a dental appointment is all about checking things out inside of your mouth and cleaning teeth. So many people immediately think about the drill when they think about dentists. If you come to my Chicago office regularly for teeth cleaning and checkups, you can usually avoid any drilling and you can avoid some major health problems as well.

    Ask Your Doctor

If you ask your doctor if it’s important to see a dentist for a quick, professional session of cleaning teeth and check-up, he or she will tell you that it is essential for your health. By getting in to see a dentist on a regular schedule, you are getting some of the best preventative health care available.

Many people come in to see me at my office, located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646, Chicago, Il, and have the early signs of gum disease. Not only can I help them with this, I can also tell them about the risks associated with gum disease, such as heart attacks and strokes. Early notification can help your doctor prevent either of these conditions from worsening.

Be sure to see a dentist for a regular teeth cleaning appointment. You’ll keep your teeth and mouth healthy, and you could also get an early diagnosis of some potentially serious, yet avoidable, health conditions. You can set up an appointment right now by simply clicking on this link.

disease all the time at my Chicago office. I’m Dr. Peter Fry, and it is always a serious thing when I have patients showing the signs of gum disease. I know that not many people are aware that problems with their teeth and gums can lead to some very serious and life threatening health problems down the road. It is probably one of the biggest reasons why it’s just so important to get a regular dental cleaning.

When you go to the dentist for a dental cleaning, you are doing more than just getting cleaner teeth. You are also taking an important step in protecting your overall health.

    Other Benefits of Dental Cleaning

As a top dentist in Chicago, I want to see all of my patients live happy, productive lives. Dental health is such an important part of your overall health that it is vital to see a dentist for a dental cleaning on a regular basis.

Did you know that besides detecting gum disease that could lead to a heart attack, dentists also may be the first medical professional to discover the early signs of oral cancer? Like any cancer, if this is discovered in time, it can be dealt with. These are just a few reasons, besides having a whiter smile, that make getting a dental cleaning so very important.

My job as a dentist is to keep people healthy. You can stop by my office at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646 to set up an appointment for a dental cleaning. You can also call me at 773-545-1414 or click on this link to set up an appointment today.

Teeth Cleaning – Your Best Defense Against Tooth Decay

    September 21st, 2010
For most people, remembering to brush their teeth is not a problem. The one thing that I notice quite often is that not many people follow through with flossing though. I’m Dr. Peter Fry.
I am a leading dentist in Chicago, Il and my office is located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207 60646.

I see a lot of patients in my Chicago office. These people suffer from tooth problems because they don’t floss often enough. Another major cause of tooth decay is the fact that people don’t come in for regular teeth cleaning. This is such an easy procedure that people should do on a regular basis. It defends against so many potential problems with your teeth, that there’s just no good reason to avoid it.

    Professional Teeth Cleaning

Getting your teeth professionally cleaned is one of the easiest things you can do, and it helps to keep your teeth healthy and white. So many people resort to other methods to whiten their teeth, however if they would just come in for regular teeth cleaning by a dentist, they would have no problems at all.

Good teeth cleaning sessions with your dentist are one of the most important things you can do for the health of your teeth and the whiteness of your smile. Save yourself some trouble by always seeing your dentist on a regular schedule.

If you don’t have a dentist, or are looking for a family dentist, you can contact me Dr.  Fry at my Chicago office! You could also call at 773-545-1414 to set up a consultation or appointment. Another great way to get an appointment set up is to click on this link, it will guide you through the process of setting up an appointment to see me and get your teeth cleaned. You’ll feel so much better when your teeth are truly clean, like only a dentist can do.

    The Truth About Teeth Whitening

    September 13th, 2010
If you watch television at all or have seen any commercials online, you’ve probably had your fill of hearing about teeth whitening products. Some days it seems like every other commercial is about the latest wonder-product to whiten your teeth and give you a better smile. My name is Dr. Peter Fry, and I’m a dentist in the Chicago area.
You could say that teeth whitening is a big part of my business, so it always interests me when I hear about the latest and greatest whitening discovery out there.

I want to see all my patients who visit me at my Chicago office to get the smile that they want, but I also want them to avoid products that may not work, or worse yet, that may actually harm their teeth.

    Whitening Strips

Probably the most popular of the teeth whitening products are the whitening strips. These products can make teeth a little whiter, but the effect soon wears off after you quit using them. These things aren’t cheap either, so when patients come to see me at my office, located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646, I usually tell them about some of the other teeth whitening alternatives that we can use to achieve a longer lasting brightness for their teeth

What about Other Teeth Whitening Products?

It’s amazing the sheer amount and variety of things that people will apply to their teeth to get them whiter. Many of these systems are not approved by dentists and can potentially add up to big problems. Remember that no gimmick should ever fill in for regular visits to your dentist.

If you are looking for a dentist for your family, give my Chicago office a call at 773-545-1414 to set up a consultation with me!

I, Dr. Fry, can answer any questions that you might have about safe tooth whitening procedures.

Discussing the Costs of Dental Implants

    September 5th, 2010
Have you heard about some of the great new breakthroughs in dental services available? This should be of particular interest to folks who have suffered from tooth loss. There are new dental implants that have made a huge splash in the world of dental services.
These implants allow someone who has lost a tooth to get a permanent implant to replace a lost tooth. These implants are more functionally true to a real tooth than dentures as well as much more attractive, and patients love how they look.

I’m Dr. Peter Fry, and I see patients who are dealing with tooth loss on a regular basis at my office, located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, Chicago, Il.

Some of the questions that patients ask me quite often are in reference to the costs of dental implants. Like any other type of dental or medical services, people want to know what they can expect to pay for dental implants. There are actually a wide range of prices depending upon the type and scope of the implant procedure. Getting a dental implant is quite a bit more involved than getting a cavity filled. It is, in fact, considered a dental surgery, so there are some additional concerns for anyone who is considering getting a dental implant, besides costs.

If you’ve lost a tooth, dental implant costs may be one of the questions that you have thought about too. If you are considering this and aren’t sure what your next steps should be, please give me a call at 773-545-1414, or click here to set up an appointment to see me.

We can discuss your needs when you visit my Chicago office, and I can give you some more in-depth information about any dental questions that you might have. I’m looking forward to hearing from you. And don’t forget that dental insurance may cover quite a bit of the costs for dental implants – that’s good news for many folks.

    Great News about Dental Implants

    August 28th, 2010
If you’ve ever lost a tooth due to injury or decay you know that it is not a fun experience. In my business I see tooth loss on a regular basis. I’m Dr. Peter Fry from Il and I hate to see the stress and pain it causes people when they suffer tooth loss. Besides just being a painful process, it can also be embarrassing; no one wants to go around with a missing tooth, especially if it is noticeable by others.
In the past, the only real alternative to tooth loss was denture work. Now there are dental implants that are a major step up from dentures or other traditional ways to deal with tooth loss.

Dental Implants – A World of Difference

There are a few things that can cause tooth loss, and none of them are anything that people want to experience. Unfortunately, it does happen and dental implants make it much easier for patients to get back to having a normal life after losing a tooth.

Dental implants look and feel more natural than having dentures! You also get to avoid the unpleasantness of soaking your teeth by the sink. This benefit alone has convinced many patients who visit me at my Chicago office to go with dental implants over dentures.

A dental implant also functions like a real tooth, where dentures have traditionally fallen well short. To put it simply, dental implants are as close as you can get to having never lost a tooth in the first place.

If you’ve lost a tooth, for any reason, I know how much trouble it is. I see it every day in my Chicago office located at 4801 W. Peterson Ave. Suite 207, 60646, but I also know that dental implants can drastically change the way you look and feel after having lost a tooth.

If you are considering a dental implant, call me at 773-545-1414, or click on this link to schedule an appointment at my Chicago office today.

    Why Maintenance

    February 1st, 2010
    Chiro maintenance
Per the U.S. Surgeon General, you cannot be healthy without oral
health. Oral health means more than just healthy teeth. It means that
all the tissues of the mouth, face, and head are healthy, including:

    * Teeth,
    * Gums (gingiva),
    * Tissues that line the mouth and throat,
    * Hard and soft palates,
    * Salivary glands,
    * Tongue,
    * Lips,
    * Chewing muscles,
    * Upper and lower jaws,
    * Facial nerves, which allow people to speak and express emotion, and
    * Blood vessels that sustain the oral tissues and link the mouth with the rest of the body.

Poor oral health can lead to:

    * Infections of the teeth (dental caries) and gums (periodontal disease)
    * Tooth loss
    * Pain and limited ability to chew or swallow
    * Increased risk for heart disease
    * For pregnant women, increased risk of pre-term or low birth weight babies
    * Difficulty in controlling diabetes and maintaining blood sugar levels
    * Time lost from work or school
    * High expenses to correct oral health problems
    * Death and disability from oral cancers

With oral health, you are free from the numerous oral diseases and
conditions that can diminish social interaction, self-esteem, chewing
satisfaction, taste enjoyment and overall quality of life. The choice
is yours…many say “yes” to oral health but fail to keep up with
regular dental visits. What about you? Don’t put it off any longer,
call today and get back to regular maintenance.

    Dental Implants: Computer Guided

    December 10th, 2009
    Simplant (CAT Scan)

Traditional dental x-rays most often do not provide sufficient information on the shape and amount of bone to predict the prosthetic outcome of implant treatment. By using a barium-coated template, which depicts final prosthetic outcome, a precise determination of the final restoration can be determined. (published references) This allows the restorative dentist to have meaningful prosthetic input during all phases of treatment. In preparation for the CAT Scan x-ray, a plastic appliance is fabricated. The patient wears this appliance during the CAT Scan. This allows prosthetic information to be incorporated on the CAT Scan. Once the medical radiologist processes the scan, it is sent to the requesting doctor for interpretation and planning. The study can be analyzed on a computer using software program called Simplant. Many restorative doctors have incorporated this technology in their office. The jawbone can be viewed three dimensionally. It becomes easy to determine the height, width and density of the bone, and the location of the mandibular nerve and maxillary sinus. Surgical simulations can be done on the computer, so the exact size and ideal location for the implant is known. In essence, your treatment is completed on simulator pre-surgically. Recent computer technology breakthroughs enable a surgical guide to be electronically constructed to guide implant placement during surgery.

Simplant overview showing the lower jaw from the front, top, and in cross-section slices. A 3-D view is also shown.
With Simplant, the height and width of the bone can be measured, and anatomical structures visualized. Here the mandibular nerve is identified and highlighted in red, and implant simulations are inserted to preview implant placement.
Closeup of side view of the lower jaw, with the mandibular nerve highlighted in red. Implant length and width simulation can determine final size needed.
Closeup of the occlusal view of lower jaw, showing natural teeth and simulation of 2 planned implants.
The cross-section view allows for determination of the implant width and length, and placement angle. Here, the proposed abutment is also shown.
The density of the bone can be seen, to evaluate if implants are feasible. The abutment post size and angle can be measured to help in planning for restorations (crowns).
The most challenging aspects of treatment are accurate diagnosis, treatment planing determining the outcome and patient satisfaction.

    Your Dental Hygiene Visit

    November 30th, 2009

    Why is Oral Hygiene Important

Protecting one of your most valuable assets-your smile-through regular oral hygiene visits can help keep it sparkling for a lifetime.

Sure, you may take excellent care of your teeth at home with daily brushing and flossing. Yet regular oral hygiene visits are vital for keeping your teeth and gums clean and healthy, preventing potentially serious problems. You can help to  learn how to keep your smile looking its best!

    About your Oral Hygiene Visit

Depending upon your unique situation and dental health, your visit may include any combination of following diagnostic, preventive or educational services:

    Diagnostic Services

    Preventive Services

    Educational Services

    • · Instruction in tooth brushing and flossing
    • · Counseling in proper nutrition
    • · Presentation of prescribed dental treatment
    • · Recommending future treatment (orthodontics, periodontal, therapy, etc.)

When Should Oral Hygiene Services Begin

In general, it’s recommended that children begin receiving oral  hygiene services when they’re as young as two to three years old. By beginning exams at an early age, so there is time to create positive experiences for your child to set the stage for a lifetime of quality dental care.

When Should Oral Hygiene Services Be Scheduled?

Because each patient’s needs are different, you should check to see what’s appropriate for you. Typically, oral hygiene visits are scheduled for every six months but may vary depending on the disease process.

What’s the Correct Way to brush?

    1) Place the head of the toothbrush next to your teeth with the bristle tips at a 45-degree angle next to the gumline.

    2) Move the brush back and forth in a small circular scrubbing motion

    3) Brush the outer surfaces of all teeth, upper and lower. Make sure you keep the bristles angled against your gumline.

    4) Now brush the inside tooth surfaces, using the same brush strokes

    5) Now brush the inside tooth surfaces of your front teeth, tilt your brush vertically and use gentle, up-and-down strokes with the head of the brush.

    6) Scrub the chewing surfaces of all back teeth.

*A few simple things you can do at home to continue a regimen of good oral hygiene include daily flossing and brushing, as well as eating a balanced diet.

How Do I Remove Plaque By Flossing?

Plaque is a bacteria-laden white substance, which forms on the teeth and contributes to tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. Effective flossing will help remove plaque missed by brushing before it contributes to these harmful effects. Here’s how to floss:

    1) Use a piece of dental floss approximately 18 inches long. Wind each end of the floss around your middle fingers.

    2) Holding the floss tightly between your thumbs and forefingers, leave about an inch of floss. Use a gentle, back and forth motion to guide the floss in between teeth. Avoid snapping the floss, which may cause unnecessary irritation to the gums.

    3) When the floss is at the gumline, curve it into an arc around each tooth until there is mild resistance.

    4) Hold the floss in the arc position and gently slide it up the side of the tooth, making sure the floss goes under the gum. Move the floss up and down (not back and forth) several times to remove the plaque from under the gum.

    5) Repeat this procedure on both sides of each tooth.

How Do I Maintain Dental Health Between Visits?

A beautiful smile is up to you! In addition to regular oral hygiene visits, it’s important that you eat a balanced diet and make sure to floss and brush everyday.

During your appointment, we’ll be happy to show you the type of toothbrush that’s best for you. Typically, you should choose a toothbrush with soft, nylon bristles that are smooth and rounded.  Toothbrushes should be replaced when the bristles begin to loose their original shape.

    A Final Word

Getting into the habits of good oral hygiene and sound nutrition are the best things you can do to preserve your smile and keep it looking its best. In addition to daily brushing and flossing, it’s important to schedule regular oral hygiene visits so you  can helped  prevent many of the problems that lead to tooth decay and loss. Our goal is to help you preserve your smile for a lifetime.

    Cosmetic Orthodontics

    November 25th, 2009

    Cosmetic Orthodontics: Traditional versus Alternative

Porcelain Veneers and Bonded Porcelain Restorations

Porcelain veneers have become widely accepted as the benchmark of conservative cosmetic dentistry. They have been used successfully to mask teeth which are discolored and poorly shaped. Bonding ultra-thin shells of porcelain to teeth created many of those Hollywood smiles that we envy.

Today, with the advancement in adhesive technology, we can achieve truly tenacious bond strengths of porcelain to tooth structure. As a result of this technology we are capable of doing more with bonded porcelain than ever before. One such application is the correction of mild to moderate crowding of the anterior teeth or what we call Instant Orthodontics.

We call this instant orthodontics because in as little as two weeks a patient can go from teeth that are crowded to a perfect smile. Patients that decide to do instant orthodontics usually have already explored the possibility of conventional orthodontics and did not want to spend two to three years in braces to align their teeth only to find that to correct the shape and color they would have to do porcelain veneers.

    Orthodontics vs Instant Orthodontics

One case in point, a patient referred to me had gone through three years of orthodontics to align his teeth. The orthodontist did the best that he could, but the patient was still not satisfied with his smile.

He tried bleaching his teeth, still not white enough! Something was missing. Clinical exam revealed worn edges of the teeth and what we call a reverse smile line. In other words, the edges of his upper teeth did not follow his lower lip line.

Instead the edges arched down in a frown.

    Porcelain Veneer Technology

We created a whole new smile for him with porcelain veneers and bonded porcelain onlays on his back teeth. The patient was ecstatic! He then realized that all this could have been accomplished without the discomfort of braces and waiting three years.

New Materials and Techniques Give Answers Never Before Possible

We’ll use the vast array of products and techniques including  tooth whitening, no- metal crowns, all-white porcelain bonded restorations and ever changing the shape of your gums to just name a few. Today, even dentures can be made to look like natural teeth.

We’ll design your treatment to get the look you want as quickly as possible. This can often be done in 1 or 4 visits! Treatment times vary depending on your situation.

“Dentures feel different. You know you have something in your mouth. But these, are  just like teeth. The only regret I have sometimes is not getting the top done as well.”
    Barbara M.

Individualized Treatment Based On Your Needs

In our office, everyone doesn’t get the same treatment because few people have the same problems! We aren’t a “1 or 2 ways to fix everything” kind of office.

We utilize a vast array of  techniques to solve even the most difficult, challenging situations. The good thing is that we are trained to know when to use what method.

A Big Bag of Tricks – We Have Solutions You May Not Thought Possible….

To use a slang term, we have a very big bag of tricks. In other words, we apply what you need. Because of our vast training and experience, we are often able to give solutions that weren’t even considered before.

Some of these include dental implants, bone grafting, plastic surgery for your gums, orthodontics and oral surgery, When needed, we’ll call in other expert Dental specialists to meet your needs.

Sometimes facial enhancement (particularly noses, cheeks, and chins) can be helped by a plastic surgeon. We’ll advise you if we diagnose this could help your treatment, but we’ll let you decide.

How We Evaluate Your Smile and Cosmetic Needs

At Dr. Fry’s, we’ll perform a thorough  examination of the teeth, gums, and chewing mechanism. We’ll make x-rays, molds of your teeth and a record of the way you bite (if needed).

Additionally, we’ll often use digital photography and intra-oral video cameras to make pictures so you can see what we see.

We then make a cosmetic analysis of your teeth using scientific and artistic principles based on our examinations and diagnostic records. This step can’t be omitted.

We’ll consider why your teeth got in the condition they are in and what we must do to solve the causes. We’ll consider your facial shape, skin tones, profile, gum positions and color, position, texture and shape of your teeth. If you have missing teeth or gaps, we’ll determine the best way to make you whole again.

The result of all this diagnostic work (and it is a lot of work) is a treatment plan customized for you, that solves or manages your problems while giving you the smile you’ve always wanted.

We’ll often create in wax what shapes and positions your teeth should have to let you see what results we are working towards before we ever start.

The Science and Art of Great Smiles

Every  person is an individual different from everyone else, with unique needs. But, while we are different, we do have similarities physically. Smiles are like that.

We’ll give you treatment based on principles of  artistic beauty chracterized for your mouth, face, and personality. Put simply, we employ the science of the beautiful smile and tailor it with the artistry of cosmetic dentistry to give the best smile for you.

Hundreds of Factors influence your smile. The common ones you know about are color, shape, and position of teeth. But it is uncommonly known ones that make all the difference in getting the results you want and deserve.

These include, but are not limited to facial shape, lips, genes, bite, jaw joints, skeleton, and facial proportions. We evaluate these many, many
factors individually and then relate them to each other to give you a
    predictably great smile.

Warning: Don’t Let This Happen to You!

An unfortunate circumstance can occur when a person wants to get his
    smile enhanced
and then does so, but without treating the other problems that are almost always present.

The result of not considering these other factors that caused the problems in the first place, is dentistry that fails.

If your teeth are less than ideal, or are in poor condition, there are reasons. If these reasons aren’t addressed and properly handled it is unlikely that the cosmetic result will last.

We know this. It is for this reason that we will diagnose your individual
needs to include treatment for the causes of your problems.

As an example, often we will see patients with worn teeth, too short, literally unseen in their smile. If the teeth are lengthened or otherwise
treated without addressing why they were so worn short… the original source of the wear… will cause wear again, or worse…cause the teeth to break!

We understand where to look for the causes of the problems and treat them.

We make an analysis of your jaw function and chewing patterns to ensure your bite is where it should be. If it isn’t corrected, your treatment is likely to fail!

It isn’t enough just to treat a smile and make it attractive again without understanding why the problems developed in the first place. The causes must be treated to ensure successful treatment of the problems.

That’s why we examine you for correct jaw joint function, good gum health, and proper chewing patterns among others as part of our total package of planning your treatment so it looks good, feels good, and lasts as long as possible.

“The doctor and assistant both made me feel extremely comfortable. The most important thing was their sense of humor.  That made  me relax a lot more. The doctor  was very understanding of my needs.”
    A.J.

    How To Evaluate Your Smile

Look in the mirror with a good light. Does your smile look like it should?

You may not know all the ‘ins and outs’ of smile evaluation, but like most people you can recognize if it could be better.

Look at the color- are your teeth dark or stained? Today just about everyone can have whiter, brighter teeth and it doesn’t matter how old you are. You can’t be too old.

In fact, many of our patients demanding smile enhancements are in their 70’s and 80’s. When asked, “why now“, they have said they always wanted to improve their smile but something had always been in the way. Almost all have commented on how they wish they had done it 20-30 years ago. They now realize what they missed and could have enjoyed years earlier.

Are your teeth worn?… Misshaped?… are your old black and brown fillings “uglying” up your mouth?… Are there gaps?… Missing teeth?

The smile doesn’t stop at the front, you know. Do you have dark fillings in the side teeth that look gray or worse, black  when you smile? If you have replacement teeth, do they look natural? Too white? Or fake?

Now…compare your smile to people to the people considered beautiful in magazines. Not because you want a Hollywood smile, (and we can do that, too) but to see how much difference there is between your smile and these pictures. This requires some courage.

Chances are you could be helped.”

Can You Grin and Say Cheese With Ease?

Can you give a big, huge smile in pictures taken of you? Many, many people are inhibited from smiling this way, but should be able to.

Do you limit your smile in pictures?

Do you not want pictures made of you because you don’t like how they look? Tired of saying, “I make really bad pictures, or I’m not photogenic?” …when in truth you’d really like to be photographed?

    Do You Show Enough Teeth?

Don’t show enough teeth? We can make you look younger, by showing more teeth when you smile.  One of the ways other people evaluate your age is based on how much teeth you show when you smile. If you show little, or worse, no teeth, the mental calculation others make is “little or no teeth equals old”. It isn’t done consciously.

It is unconscious… but nevertheless it still happens.

“I had lost some teeth because of disease in my gums and the problem was getting worse…then I went to Dr. Fry at Making “Smiles” Happen. The treatment was wonderful and didn’t hurt at all.”
    Nancy W.

Do You Show Too Much Gum, Too Little Teeth?

Many times the problems with smiles aren’t with your teeth, but with your gums! Showing too much gum or too little can really mess up a smile.

We have gum solutions that can make a real difference by reducing the amount of gum that shows or adding to it.

Even If You Don’t Know What You Don’t Like About Your Smile, We Can
    Help.

Look, you may not even know what you don’t like about your smile. That’s o.k.. We at Dr. Peter Fry’s office can help you figure it out.

You may only want a bit of enhancement. Great. We love being able to make a big difference in smiles with just a little treatment. In fact, it is one of our most enjoyable treatments.

From smile disasters… to smile enhancement, we can help you get the smile that should be yours.

Having a Great Smile Could Change Your Life!!!

Many, many times we create great smiles for our patients and then a few months later, major positive life changes occur.

One lady, unmarried but attractive except for her teeth… underwent
comprehensive treatment, replacing missing teeth, rebuilding her bite with dental implants and creating a gorgeous smile. She was ecstatic with her results. A few months later, she was dating the man of her dreams. A year and a half later, she’s married and getting more out of her life than ever.

We had one gentleman; he’s in his mid 30’s, single. He had less than pleasing teeth. I guess you could say he was “smile challenged”. He got his smile makeover. He then went on a diet, lost a bunch of weight and within a year was engaged and got a big promotion.

Many times patients don’t see the connection between getting their radiant, bright smiles and their changes in life for the better. That’s ok. We still get to enjoy seeing our patients do better, for our work not only positively impacts our patients directly, but also indirectly all those people our patients touch.

    Everyone wins.

Another man, mid 50’s, with a dental disaster had a smile make-over. Even before we could totally complete his work, he spent the best two-week vacation in his life with his wife.

“I had been terrified of going to the dentist for as long as I could remember. The older I got, the worse my fears got, so I simply quit going. Needless to say, my teeth and gums steadily deteriorated to the point where I had no choice but to do something. Dr. Fry and his staff performed extensive dental work on me and I can honestly say I experienced little to no discomfort. Dr. Fry has truly given me something to smile about and something to smile with.”
    John P.

One lady, in her late 70’s came in once for some work. I mistakenly assumed she’s wanting minimal dentistry. She told me she wanted optimum care, quite stridently in fact. Today, almost 10 years later, she is doing quite well, thank you, and smiling a lot.

As an aside, we have noticed that our patients who really get their teeth healthy and looking good not only seem to enjoy their lives better but also are healthier, have fewer illnesses as they grow older and seem to live longer.

Another girl, in her 20’s, her teeth were too dark, one tooth was really dark in the front. With a few simple treatments, her teeth are white…her dark tooth is no longer. She got married shortly thereafter!

We have case after case after case of our patients doing better, enjoying life more and getting what they really want out of life after getting their great smiles.

“You are clearly dedicated to providing state-of-the-art service. That is
a rare and wonderful thing, and it makes visiting the Dentist office (of all places!) a pleasure. To anyone looking for dentistry the way it out to be done, I recommend you highly.”

    Cosmetic Dentistry- Part Two

A Good Looking Smile Isn’t Optional Anymore

While a good-looking smile may have been an option before, is it really
anymore? Just what are the possible advantages for you by having a
great smile? Think about it for a moment. How about your job? …your
relationships with others?… your ability to make friends?… your
    advancement in your career?

How much more confident in yourself could you be knowing you have with a great smile?

Will You Help Someone You Care About?

What about others around you that you care about? Could their
attractiveness be changed for the better with smile improvements? You could be doing them a huge favor by influencing them to get a great smile!

Sometimes people will buy all kinds of fashionable clothing at great
expense to look better. Many women spend hundreds of dollars a year
on hair, nails, and make-up to look better. And this goes on… year after year.. at untold sums of money.

Now there is nothing wrong with this, but …knowing the importance of a beautiful smile, could their time, money, and effort be better spent on improving their smile?

How many people have you seen with all the best clothes, but dark, stained, broken down or just ugly teeth? Too many!

“The doctor and staff have done an excellent job to ensure I felt no
pain and explained every step throughout the procedure to make me
    feel relaxed and comfortable.”
    E.U.

Your Radiant Smile Could Be Created Overnight

With today’s technology and the science and artistry of the Dentist,  it’s easier to create great smiles. Your smile could be brought to radiant life in as little as 1 or 2 visits, often literally overnight.

“My experience is that this is the best dental office I have ever been in.
The quality of care is just excellent and that the doctor and staff definitely know their business, care a great deal about me and answered all my questions. I recommend your practice. You can call me a true fan.”
    G.S.

Do You See Your Smile for How it Really Is?

Some people may be suffering from smile “numbness”… not seeing how their teeth really look. They have gotten so used to them that they don’t really see how bad they look. Or they have wanted to make their smiles better, but didn’t know where to go.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of training in dental schools in appearance-enhancing dentistry, most dentists fail to advise their patients on what could be done. So going to a dentist on a regular basis and not hearing of any help, they don’t know that it is possible to have radiant, attractive teeth.

The consequence is that these people have “given up” on having a great smile and don’t even see their teeth for how they really are… That’s a shame because … now we’ve got solutions.

Your Smile Can Help Other People!

The truth is …your personality and your relations with others, affects you and them a great deal. When you smile a lot you feel better about yourself and others feel better about themselves! Who doesn’t like being around smiling, happy people?

Yes, your smile has effects on lots of people, not just you. Your smile
enhancement is actually contributing to the good of others! Moreover,
how do others treat you when you make them feel better about
themselves?…that’s right…  they trust you better.

Now you can have stronger, better relationships with others. They’ll like you better…Heck,… you’ll probably like yourself better.

Make Your Own Evaluation of Your Smile

Ask yourself, do I smile as often as I’d like to? Do I smile early and often without any concern over how my teeth look?

Am I proud of my smile? If you answered “no”, you can at least benefit
    from a cosmetic dentistry evaluation.

Do you suffer from personality inhibiting smile restraint? You know, do
you sometimes not smile when you’d like to, for fear of the way your teeth look? This personality inhibition affects many people quite severely.

If you have this…then you are the one that suffers the most… even those around you are robbed of the vibrant, joyful you.

Your smiling and feeling good about yourself radiates to others so they
feel better about themselves and smile more too! It is such a positive thing.

If you had a great smile, would you smile more often? Of course!

Even if you don’t have personality-inhibiting smile restraint, would a few enhancements help?

“I had implants restored by Dr. Fry.  He explained all the procedures and used the latest technology. Although I required extensive surgery prior to restoring my teeth…I experienced minimal discomfort. All the procedures were done patiently and thoroughly. I have had considerable dental treatment in the past. The treatment and care I received from Dr. Fry and staff was great. The results have been the best ever. Friendly, gentle Dentistry describes my experience at Dr. Fry‘s office.

    Insurance-Usual and Customary

    November 14th, 2009

    “USUAL and CUTOMARY”

    What Does it Mean?

We are sometimes asked by our patients, “Your fee for this treatment is over what the insurance company says is usual and customary.  Are you over charging me?” Here is the answer.

“A dental plan is nothing more than a contract between the employer and the insurance company to partially pay for certain services.  There are deductibles, some services are paid on a percentage, and some services aren’t covered at all.  Your employer buys a contract at a specific premium and includes as many or as few benefits as they want.  It is a fact that the higher the premium paid by the employer, the higher the usual and customary fee schedule will be. This is why different insurance companies have different reasonable and customary fees for the same area.

Also many Insurance companies will pay different fees depending on the Zip Code.

Our fees are set by the actual cost of doing business in this particular office.  Cost vary from office to office, depends on quality of service, lab costs, and how much time is spent with the patient.  We refuse to spend less time and attention to rush through a delicate dental procedure so we can fit into a particular dental insurance company’s fee structure.  If your insurance company is not paying for you dental service at a dental office you choose, we would advise you to encourage your company to switch dental insurance carriers.

Cosmetic Dentistry- A World of Possibilities

A Beautiful Mouth Without Braces!-Cosmetic Dentistry

If nature didn’t give you the perfect smile, would you like a makeover? Imagine, that we could help you look and feel your best, with a healthier and more attractive smile! If you don’t want to be embarrassed or ashamed any more, then Cosmetic Dentistry is the answer! Let us also show you, your “after” look, “before” you begin any treatment? Is that possible??? Yes it is! Read on, or call us.

We in dentistry are excited about our ability and the possibilities to create healthy disease free smiles, many times, with relatively simple options that exist today.

    The Facts About Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile communicates a lot about how you feel about yourself.  Even a minor flaw in your smile can keep you from feeling your best about the way you look.  In the past, we had few options to improve teeth that were chipped, stained or crooked.  However, now a wide range of cosmetic dental techniques can benefit almost any smile.

Cosmetic dentistry is a blending of art and science.  With a focus on esthetic results and using a variety of the latest restorative techniques and materials, we can enhance your smile to give it a more pleasing appearance.

Some of the conditions that may be helped by cosmetic dentistry are:

To address these conditions, any or all of the following cosmetic techniques may be used.

    Veneers

A porcelain veneer is indicated when a portion of the front surface of the tooth needs a “face lift.”  Similar to composite bonding, veneers are attached directly to the existing tooth  structure.  We treat the surface of the tooth with a special conditioner to prepare it to receive the veneer.  A tooth-colored liquid bonding material is then applied to the tooth surface, to help the veneer adhere solidly to it. Veneers are also used to cover stains and close spaces between teeth.

    Composite Bonding

A composite resin filling may be used when only a small amount of tooth structure needs replacement.  Composite bonding is one of the most conservative, versatile and affordable ways to aesthetically restore a multitude of cosmetic problems.

To begin a bonding procedure, we treat the tooth with a special enamel conditioner to roughen the enamel surface and allow the bonding material to adhere.  A composite resin is then applied and shaped to match the contour and color of your natural tooth.  The surface of the composite is then restored to the tooth’s natural shape and polished to achieve a natural luster and appearance.

    Tooth Whitening

Due to a variety of causes, teeth tend to stain and “yellow” over time.  We can help you whiten and brighten graying or yellowed teeth.  We examine your mouth and recommend the best treatment for your specific needs, either an in-office treatment or a take-home treatment, which we monitor to make sure your obtain the best results and that your tissue stays healthy during the process.

    Tooth-Colored Fillings

Many dentists and patients today favor restorations (fillings) done using tooth-colored composites or porcelain materials.  The use of a tooth-colored filling material is not limited to new restorations, however.  There are numerous reasons why older restorations may need replacing, and we can use these newer, more esthetic materials at that time.

    Crowns and Bridges

A full crown is usually indicated when a tooth has had root canal treatment or when a substantial amount of tooth is cracked, broken or decayed and are not able to place a filling.

A bridge spans a space where one or more teeth have been lost in the dental arch or the remaining teeth are not strong enough to support an individual crown.  We replace the missing teeth with custom-designed replacement teeth, which are anchored by crowns connected to each other and to  existing healthy tooth structure.

    Orthodontics

Addressing a variety of cosmetic and functional problems, this specialized branch of dentistry deals with straightening teeth and altering bone growth and gum tissue contours.  Through the use of specially designed and fitted appliances, constant gentle pressure is put on the teeth, causing them to move into a desired position.

Now adults and children can benefit from new advances in orthodontic treatment.  Your total cosmetic care may include a combination or orthodontics, tissue sculpting, and cosmetic restorative treatment.  The goal in our office is to recommend the best possible treatment for your unique cosmetic and functional needs.

    Implants

They have revolutionized Dentistry in many ways not thought of only 10-15  years ago, by allowing us to restore your mouth to new function, health, some instances better than you might even been born with, plus, longevity, and esthetics, so others don’t even know that they aren’t your real teeth.

The reactions of our patients to the improvements in longevity and health have been astounding, and very gratifying. Can you believe that most every patient says,” If I only had known you could do this for me, I would have done it much sooner!”

Dentistry, that is the new Dentistry of the 21st century, allows us the luxury of keeping people healthy for a life time, and if not completely, still make significant improvement. Dentures are no longer and should no longer be the ultimate outcome! Come see for yourself firsthand what we can do for you. Set up a free consultation and see what is available to enhance your appearance and health.

If you don’t like the “Smile” you were born with…..here’s what you can do to change it. Cosmetic Dentistry will help you look and feel your best, with a healthier and more attractive new smile! Also, imagine seeing your “after” look, “before” you begin? Is that possible??? findout.

Dental Safety– Protection With Infection Control

    November 9th, 2009

    Dental Safety and Infection Control

You can be confident that our office takes your health and well-being seriously. That’s why we follow or exceed all guidelines for safety and infection control.

We share our concern about the spread of infectious diseases and other safety issues. This article will inform you about the measures we take to protect you during your visit. If you have any questions about our procedures, please ask the dentist or one of our staff.

The Facts About Infection Control and Safety

Infectious diseases such as AIDS, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, and Herpes have made numerous headlines in recent years.  The ADA (American Dental Association), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration0 and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) have established detailed infection control guidelines for the dental profession. Known as universal precautions, they are followed by all dental staff and used for every patient.

Universal precautions require the dental staff to wear protective devices such as gloves, masks and often, eye wear. Used gloves are disposed of and hands are washed between every patient

You may also notice thin plastic coverings or “barriers” on frequently touched items such as lights, headrests, chairs, trays, X-rays unit or syringes. The disposable, protective barriers are also changed between patients.

    What About Sterilization?

Anything that goes into a patient’s mouth is used only once (disposable) or sterilized between patients. Sterilization methods include heat or chemical (also called cold sterilization).

Heat sterilization takes place in a pressurized “oven” called an autoclave. The autoclave creates a high-temperature vapor that penetrates the small internal passages of instruments and handpieces that cannot be thoroughly sterilized by other methods.

Autoclaves are monitored and certified regularly by a biological testing service. With the exception of needles that are always disposed of in special containers after each use, almost every instrument is heat sterilized.

For some instruments, dry heat and chemical vapor heat sterilizes may also be used. Items that would be destroyed by the intense heat of an autoclave are chemical or “cold” sterilized. Surfaces that cannot be moved or sterilized are disinfected between patients by thoroughly wiping them with a specialized disinfectant solution.

Should I Be Concerned About X-Rays?

No. X-rays are an important diagnostic tool used to safeguard your health. An X-ray film or “radiograph” can help us detect conditions not visible during the dentist’s exam of your mouth. Some of these often serious conditions include:

    · Receding bone (a sign of periodontal disease)

    • · Infection or abscesses of teeth or gums
    • · Fractured teeth
    • · Hidden cavities

The amount of radiation received during dental X-rays is very

small. With today’s equipment and high-speed films, dental X-ray’s are safer than ever.

What Precautions Are Taken to Minimize Exposure?

We may ask you to wear a protective lead apron during your X-ray exam. This covers your upper body from your neck to your thighs and protects vital areas from unnecessary exposure.

Our staff member performing the X-ray exam will usually leave the room during each exposure. Because they perform thousands of these exposures annually, leaving the room prevents them from receiving unwanted repeated doses of radiation that could pose a cumulative risk.

Are X-rays Dangerous if I’m Pregnant?

No. X-rays limited to the head and neck areas are unlikely to expose a developing fetus to any detectable radiation. If you are in your first trimester, however X-rays are generally postponed. Please tell us if you are or think you are pregnant.

How Safe is Nitrous Oxide Sedation

The safety of nitrous oxide is well established. It has been used for many years to help patients feel more relaxed in the dental chair. There are practically no side effects to nitrous oxide sedation; it is non-allergenic and non-irritating. The effects of the gas wear off quickly, within three to five minutes with normal breathing. Patients remain conscious and are fully aware  and in control during their entire treatment. We may suggest nitrous oxide to make you more comfortable during your treatment.

Occasionally, patients with asthma, severe bronchitis or other lung disorders are discouraged from using it- make sure we are fully aware of any past or present medical conditions so we may help you decide if nitrous oxide should be used.

Should I Be Concerned About Allergic Reactions?

If you have any known allergies, please include that information in your medical history. We will use this information to prevent the prescription of any medicine that might cause an adverse reaction. If you are taking a recently prescribed drug, please inform us so we may prevent any drug interactions if dental prescription is necessary.

A small number of people experience a variety of reactions to Natural Rubber Latex. Because many articles in health care environments contain latex, it is important to be aware of your sensitivity and inform the staff if you haven’t already listed the condition in your patient history. If you are latex sensitive, we can take special precautions to prevent a reaction.

    Are Silver Fillings Really Safe?

Silver fillings, called amalgams, are composed of a mixture of silver, copper, tin and mercury. These metals are combined in various amounts to form a stable, hard restorative material or “filling” which is durable enough to withstand the extreme forces of chewing over a long time.

While tiny amounts of mercury vapor can be released under these pressures, no scientific research links dental amalgams to any health problems. In fact, numerous studies conducted during the past century have yet to link amalgam restorations to any kind of medical disorder. Dental amalgams have been used in millions of restorations worldwide for over 100 years and continue to be the standard by which all other restorative materials are compared for cost, durability and safety. There are many new restorative materials available, we’ll recommend the one best suited for you.

    A Final Word

Our mission is to promote and protect your good health. In the pursuit of that goal, we do everything possible to ensure your safety and prevent the transmission of infectious disease. Please feel free to ask us about any of our safety or infection control measures.

    Lifetime.

Everyone agrees that a great smile is a true asset. You’ll even hear
people say, “When she smiles, she lights up a room.”

Wouldn’t you like that said about you?

This information is given to inform you about how you can get a
magnificent smile and reasons why you should.

Science proves… it is not vanity or selfishness to get a great smile!

It is about getting more out of life and helping others do the same.

Before we start though, lets talk about the negative; it costs money.
Truthfully, whether you consider it a cost or investment depends on
    what you consider important.

For some people, it just wouldn’t be worth it to them- it’s a cost.

For most folks, it really is an investment. An investment that pays
    dividends 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Being able to eat whatever, being able to smile and not be afraid of
showing your mouth, and just the peace of mind of having good dental
health truly makes it all worthwhile.

A great smile affects your life every minute of every waking hour (and
for some people even while they are asleep).

The question, is it worth it? Every individual must decide for
himself/herself just how valuable a great smile really is.

Just a hint: If your pay went up 12-14%, multiply that by every year
you’ve worked.  Now, how much longer is your career? Add those
together and multiply. How much would that be worth? …

When piled on top of the other enormous benefits… increased self-
    confidence…greater self-esteem…enhanced relationships…better
treatment by others…making friends more easily…increased ability to
    influence co-workers… clients… customers…even friends
and neighbors… the scale falls with a thundering clang on the side of
having a great smile. It is an investment that pays dividends every day
of your life. For many people it is a necessity.

    People Look At Your Teeth…

Did you know your teeth and smile is the first or second thing that
others notice about you? Depending on the study, it is your teeth and
smile and then your eyes, or vice versa, that other people notice when
you come into contact with them. This makes sense, as these are your
main sources of communication- either receiving or giving. And since all
people like beautiful things, having a beautiful smile is very important to
how attractive other people see you. While you may have already
known this, only over the past 25 years or so has the scientific evidence
mounted up proving the importance of having a great smile.

Attractiveness Determines How Other People Perceive and Treat You

Scientific research has proven what many people already know; the
better you look, the better others treat you. The point here is that the
advantage of attractiveness is very greatly underestimated. The size
and reach of attractiveness is huge. Why?

Because people who are seen as attractive are believed to be smarter,
more talented, kinder, and more honest!

This is true throughout our entire society. In other words, your smile
and teeth determine a great deal of how much other people want to be
around you. With a great smile you become more promote-able… more
attractive to the opposite sex… more likely to be viewed as someone
that others want to be friends with…more trustworthy.

    Social Advantages of Looking Good

Good-looking people enjoy a tremendous social advantage. They are
viewed as more intelligent. They are better liked. They are seen as
having more desirable personalities. Attractive people are more
persuasive and more likely to be given help by others.

Attractive School Children Viewed As Less Naughty

Even attractive elementary school children as shown in a study by Dion
in 1972 were viewed as less naughty when misbehaving compared to
    unattractive children.

Further, a study by Ritts, Patterson, and Tabbs 1992, showed that
teachers perceive their attractive schoolchildren as more intelligent than
    their unattractive schoolmates.

Good-Looking Political Candidates Get More Votes!

Few people are really aware of their bias toward attractive people, if
asked most people would deny it. In one Canadian study done by Efran
and Patterson in 1976, attractive political candidates received 2 ½ times
as many votes as unattractive candidates. Voters denied that their votes
    were influenced by attractiveness.

Influence Even on Law and Justice: Attractive Equals More Lenient
    Treatment

Even in our court system, good-looking people receive more favorable
treatment. Attractive people are twice as likely to avoid jail time and if
jailed get lighter sentences! This is from a Pennsylvania study by
    Stewart in 1980.

    Getting A Job More Easily

In a 1990 study by Mack and Rainey, good grooming accounted for
more favorable hiring decisions than did job qualifications!

You Can Get More Pay With A Great Smile

In the U.S. and Canada, according to Hammermesh and Biddle, 1994,
attractive individuals get paid an average of 12-14 percent more than
    unattractive co-workers.

Both Sexes Say Attractive Teeth Are Just Better

Interestingly, both sexes respond to attractiveness the same way better looking equals better in all kinds of ways.

    Dentures VS Implants–NO Contest

    November 6th, 2009

Are Dentists Like Mechanics Or Car Salesman?

Now, you may be thinking, “Dr. Fry, I didn’t know dentists are like mechanics or car salespeople!”

Well, most aren’t and just like any profession or trade, the majority of dentists are ethical and fair, but even if they are ethical and fair, it doesn’t mean they can give the same quality of advice and service. That they have had the same training! Or have stayed up to speed with their education.

All Dentists Are NOT the Same

See, the American Dental Association, did a research study where they sent in a prospective patient to 12 different dental offices to get price quotes. The prospect was given 12 totally different treatment plans, and 12 different price quotes. Some of the quotes were different by over $5000 dollars.

So, I think it IS important to know what procedures you want to have done, and what your options are. For example, Betty Johnson is a local resident who came in and wanted 6 veneers put in. That would have cost her more than $6000.00 easily, but all she needed was to have her teeth whitened to get the same results. This saved her thousands of dollars, and I hope this report can do the same for you!

Following are the 3 dangers people with dentures face, and a lot of the common questions people have regarding dental implants and then there are a few different ways you can get it taken care of. There may be a couple that does not apply to you. Just skip over them, and go to the ones that do. By looking over these questions and answers, you’ll be a lot more knowledgeable and confident when going into a dental office, asking questions, and scheduling an appointment.

3 Dangers of Tooth Loss and Poor Fitting Dentures

    That You Must Know About!

Danger #1: Bone Loss Makes You Look Older Quicker

Dental Implants assist you in looking and feeling younger, because they prevent bone loss. By preventing bone loss that would normally occur with the loss of teeth, your facial structures remain normal and intact. The chances of wrinkling and the look of old age before your time is less likely.

In other words, everyday that you continue to wear dentures, you are experiencing bone loss, which makes you look much older than you have to.

Danger #2: Dentures Increase Your Risk of Heart Disease And Oral Cancer

While tooth loss may seem like a small problem compared with other health ad fitness issues, it is often the first sign of bigger health problems for many people and can put them at higher risk for heart disease and oral cancer.

When dentures don’t properly fit, bacteria can lie in areas behind them and lead to bone disease and oral cancer.  Oral Cancer is probably one of the least known forms, but the American Cancer Society reports that there will be approximately 30,000 new cases diagnosed this year alone.

Then there is Heart Disease, which has been linked to gum disease. When dentures do not fit correctly, you have a higher chance of gum disease. The reason you must be aware of these concerns is because dentures are causing more problems than just being uncomfortable and unattractive.

Danger #3: Dentures May Reduce Your Life Span

I know this sounds kind of ridiculous, because who would ever think that your teeth could have an affect on how long you live. But it’s true!

Many people with poor fitting dentures or multiple missing back teeth live shorter life spans of up to 10 years less due to poor eating habits and stomach problems. They tend to eat more processed foods and experience many other health problems related to malnutrition from poorer eating habits. People today now have options to dentures, and one of them is dental implants.

People who get dental implants can finally eat the healthy foods they have been missing such as; apples, fresh vegetables, corn on the cob, and even steak!

    `                                               Commonly Asked Questions!

    Q: What are Dental Implants?

A: The dental implants used by most dentists and dental specialists are root-form implants, which basically means that they are replacement, or substitute tooth roots, used to replace natural tooth roots in areas of the mouth where teeth are missing.

Since it replaces the tooth root, it creates the stability needed to have much stronger teeth that stay in place and don’t move around.

Q: What Are The Benefits Of Dental Implants?

A: Here is a list of just a few of the benefits:

    1. Prevents Bone Loss- by preventing bone resorption that would normally occur with the loss of teeth, the facial structures remain intact. This is especially important when all of the teeth are missing, because the lower one-third of the face collapses if implants are not placed to preserve the bone.
    1. Overall quality of life is enhanced with replacement teeth that look, feel and function more like natural teeth. You will look younger and more attractive which allows you to be even more confident and enjoy smiling, laughing, and talking with others.
    1. You can now live longer, because you’ll get to eat better and prevent malnutrition or stomach problems! Fresh Vegetables and fruits are back on the menu! You can now eat the foods you like. Also, since your chewing is improved, your digestion will be even better as well!
    1. Increases the amount of enjoyment you get out of eating
    2. Creates more confidence in social situations. Most of our patients love their new implants, because of their improved appearance, function, and comfort and health.
    1. Allows you to relax and not have to worry about your dentures moving around, popping out, or gagging you. You’ll never worry about your dentures flying out when you laugh, sneeze, cough, or when you eat. Implants are so securely attached that the fear of them falling out will be eliminated!
    1. You mouth will be restored as closely as possible to its natural state. By replacing the entire tooth, as well as the tooth root, it is possible to replicate the function of natural teeth, with a strong, stable foundation that allows comfortable biting and chewing. Also, nothing in the in the mouth looks or feels false or artificial!

    1. You will be able to taste foods more fully. Wearing an upper denture can prevent someone from really tasting food, as the roof of the mouth is covered. With implant supported replacement teeth, it is not necessary to cover the roof of the mouth, so it is possible to enjoy the taste of foods.

    1. Improves overall oral health and decrease the risk of oral cancer and heart disease. It is much easier to care for implants of any kind versus dentures. So, your chances of bacteria build up, and gum disease decreases when you have implants.
    2. Eliminate Denture Adhesives FOREVER!

Since implant supported teeth are securely attached to the implants, there is no need for messy dentures adhesives.

    1. Your other teeth will not be affected because of missing teeth. Since replacing missing teeth with implant supported crowns and bridges do not involve the adjacent natural teeth, they are not compromised or damaged.

For example, when you wear a partial denture, you have clamps that hook onto adjacent teeth, which put pressure on them that causes them to loosen and come out.

And bridges require grinding down of the adjacent teeth so that the bridge can be cemented on them. This tooth structure can never be replaced and the long-term  health of these teeth are compromised.

Q: Am I A Candidate For Dental Treatment?

A: Almost everyone is missing one or more teeth and in general good health is a candidate for dental’ implant treatment. There are few medical conditions that can undermine the success of implant treatment, such as uncontrolled diabetes. However, here are few condition that would keep someone from having implant treatment altogether.

Quality and quantity of available bone for implant placement is more often a factor in qualifying for dental implants than medical conditions. However, even people who have lost significant amount of bone can qualify for dental implant treatment with additional procedures to add bone or create new bone. Advances in this type of treatment have made it possible for thousands of patients who would not previously have been considered candidates to have successful implant procedures.

Q: How Painful Is Getting Dental Implants?

A: Most of our patients report that they feel very little if any pain during the procedure. One of the things we do during your treatments.

Also, when you leave our office, you’ll get a prescription if necessary. Plus we will call to make sure that you are not in any abnormal amounts of discomfort. Our goal is to give you stronger, more comfortable teeth, with practically pain-free dentistry!

Q: How Long Will It Take To Complete The Treatment?

A: You will notice a difference almost immediately. However, the entire process can take anywhere between 3-9 months to complete. This depends on the type, and quantity of implants you need, along with the quality of bone in which the implants are placed.

There are treatment options that are faster, such as dentures; however, none of these traditional methods prevent bone loss, or give the type of natural look and feel like implants do.

Q: Will I Need To Have One Implant Placed For Each Tooth That Is Missing?

A: No. In fact it is possible to replace all of the lower teeth with an over denture that is supported by only 2-4 implants. On the other hand, sometimes it might work in your advantage to replace your back teeth with an implant for each tooth to provide additional strength.

Q: How Do I Know If I’m Too Old For Implants?

A: Great question. Your overall health and your desire to improve the quality of life are much more important things to look at, than your age. We currently have patients from 40 years old to 70 + years old. There have been reports of people who are in their 90’s and having this procedure done with no problems.

Q: How Long Do Implants Last?

A: Most research has shown that implants have been successful for over 30 years. However, our goal is to make them so they last a lifetime. This is much improved from dentures, which are 5 years, and/or bridges where the expected time of use is between 7-10 years.

Q: Do You Offer Any Warrantee?

A: Yes. Even though dental implants have over a 95% success rate, there is still a very small chance that they won’t completely bond. When this occurs, new implants are placed and the success rates for the replacement implants are even higher.

When we restore  the implants, we keep working for FREE until we get it right. The only thing you need to do is make sure you come in for your regular scheduled visits so that we can keep your gums and teeth healthy, which will prevent most possible problems.

Q: What is the Cost of Implant Treatment?

A: Many people call and ask us, “How much is one implant going to cost?” While I wish it was that simple. The only way to determine actual cost is by coming in for a consultation and examination to find out if you have bone loss, if you’ll need one, two, or more implants.

See, the actual cost of implant treatment is based on a number of factors, such as the number of teeth being replaced, the type of treatment option recommended and whether additional procedures are necessary to achieve the proper esthetic and functional results.

Q: Does Insurance Cover Dental Implant Treatment?

A: Insurance coverage depends on your individual policy. Most policies do not give substantial coverage.

Although most companies exclude implants as a covered benefit, many of them will pay the same benefit they would cover for the lowest cost alternative treatment option (partials and dentures) and some for the diagnostic records, if a specific request were made for “alternative benefits”.

Q: What Are Some Common Misconceptions People Have When Choosing A Dentist?

Misconception #1 : The dentist that offers the lowest price is the dentist you should choose.

Maybe – but not always. Here are a few points to consider.

Point #1: The price you see offered may not be for the services you want performed. Before you select a practice, decide what you want to accomplish.

Usually, if a dentist is much lower in price than other dentists it may indicate that they run you through procedures faster, and spend less time with you.

This may not be good, because the focus is not on quality.

Also, price is usually an indication of quality.  More efficient Dentistry may cost more.  Better trained dentists who want to give you more time and quality of service cost more.  Reliable service and products cost more.  You don’t buy the cheapest car, clothes, or foods.  Don’t let price alone be the deciding factor when choosing a dentist.

Point #2: The price you see advertised may not be the price you pay.

Many people have learned that the low price they saw advertised was not the amount they were charged.

And if you’ve hired a dentist, you too may have been the victim of false or misleading advertising. You probably learned the hard way that some companies offer a cheap price – and then pressure you into paying a lot more once they get you in the office. Some of them may not even mean to do it, but it just happens.

You’ll find other practices – professionals like me who work hard to earn your trust and respect.

As a way of improving our profession, I’ve dedicated my practice to educating the public. The only way you can make an intelligent decision is to have all the facts you need. This is why I give away this booklet.

If you’re thinking about having your teeth examined, whitened, or you are looking for other cosmetic or general procedures, I offer these three recommendations:

Recommendation #1: Make a commitment to yourself to get your teeth and gums examined every 6 months.  The longer you wait, the worse it will be(and costly!).  Regular check ups will extend the life of your teeth and help maintain their look and feel!

Also, 4 out of 5 people are walking around with the worst silent killer of teeth and it’s called periodontitis- aka gum disease.

If your gums are bleeding when brushing or eating hard food, you have bad breath, pain or sores in your mouth,  gums are pulled back which make your teeth appear longer, or you see pus between gums and teeth, you must get in right away!

Recommendation #2: Ask questions.  The way you learn about a practice is to ask specific questions and listen carefully to the answers.  Here are the questions I suggest you ask:

    • Do you have any testimonials from current patients who are satisfied and enjoy their experience with their dentist? If you are looking to have aesthetic or cosmetic work done, you will want to see before and after pictures of actual patients from that office like the ones in this booklet. Many dentists use books with pictures in them, but the problem is that these are not his or her patients.
    • The second question you’d like to ask is “Is there any warranty or guarantee given?” For example, if you bought a washer and dryer, you will be offered a certain warranty that will guarantee that washer and dryer will work for a certain time period, and if it doesn’t, they’ll replace it. Well, in our office almost every procedure has a warrantee so if a filling fell out, or a crown fell off, we’d replace it for no extra charge.
    • The third question you’d like to know is what is the doctor doing to stay current and keep his/her skills up to speed, especially if you are doing a specialized procedure. See, there are so many dentists out there, and some are better than others at different procedures. So, you want to make sure the dentist you choose to do your procedure is very experienced at it.
    • Finally, the last question that many of our patients ask, and I think is very important is, “What does the dentist do to insure that you are going to have an anxiety free and pain free experience?”

For example, many of our patients come in very nervous and scared, but find out that we have nitrous oxide, know as laughing gas, and we can now use lasers to detect cavities where x-rays couldn’t. It’s amazing how many of our patients leave our office telling us how it didn’t hurt a bit.

“When I went to Dr. Fry’s office, I was absolutely thrilled to find out that he did everything possible to make sure I had an enjoyable and pain-free experience. I now tell all of my friends to go there!” Jim P Chicago IL

By asking these questions and spending the small amount of time necessary to make an intelligent choice of a dentist, you will help create a doctor-patient relationship founded on mutual trust and respect

Recommendation #3: Once you’re satisfied that you’re working with an honest, competent professional, set up an appointment.

By following these recommendations, you’ll gain all the information you need to make an informed, intelligent decision.  If you want the lowest price service, many practices in the phone book can help you.

But if you want great service by a well-qualified dentist, who can service your Dental needs completely and thoroughly – creating healthier, whiter teeth, preventing and treating your gum disease, and making your dental experience an enjoyable one– then I invite you to call me.

Q: I want to know if I’m a candidate, but I don’t want to go to an office that is pushy and try to sell me?

    What can I do?

A: Great Question. First, here’s what I’d like to offer you:

A FREE 7 POINT HAPPY AND STRONG SMILE CONSULTATION!

Yes, we will do something your family doctor wouldn’t do.

Provide an initial interview and consultation with no charge!

And no, it will not be a disguised sales presentation. Or a “pitch”. Or anything, except a brief (half hour or so) time to get some x-rays, look at your gums and current situation and find out what concerns you.

And simply put, you get to tell me what you want!

    And that’s it.

If, at the end of the consultation, you do not feel like we can help you, or that you don’t like me, or that you want to keep doing what you’re doing, etc., that’s fine.

    And that’s it.

You go home, and we leave it at that.

NO PRESSURE.  NO SALES.  NO HASSLES!

You see, we know a critical fact:

IN TODAY’S SKEPTICAL AND FEARFUL SOCIETY, ANY ATTEMPT TO PRESSURE SOMEONE, OR SELL THINGS BEFORE THE TIME IS RIGHT Or Not Right At All, WILL ASSURE THE PROSPECT WILL RUN FOR THE HILLS!

Believe me, I could not be working with so many local residents, near retirees, and retirees if I was doing anything to make them uncomfortable! They wouldn’t put up with it for a second!

I can’t think of a better way to work.

    Can you?

So why don’t you think this over for a couple of days, and see if this makes sense to you?

If you have any major skepticism left, or maybe have a question or two, feel free to give us a call. You will find that when we talk, there will be zero push or pressure. Our goal is to educate you!

If you are really not interested or ready, that’s great.

If you want to talk, that’s OK too.

You have to understand that I love getting new patients, and as a matter of fact, we get a bunch of new patients every month.

But, because I have a steady volume, I never accept patients that aren’t really excited and interested in their dental future. I am going to be honest with you. I have so much fun seeing people’s lives change for the better when they get their new teeth, that I would never work with anyone who wasn’t excited and looking forward to finally getting the:

Look And Feel They’ve Always Wanted With Their Teeth!

Life is too short to “fight” people who don’t really want to HAVE A FUTURE WITH MORE COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE!

I hope you are thinking a lot about your own life, and whether or not you feel in control of it with the current dental situation you are in.

Or whether it is controlling you!

Even if we never talk, I want you begin to take a new view of your dental health. One that allows your natural joy and confidence be the dominant forces. So you can have the best life possible.

And that I have shown you how to get rid of those bad frustrating feelings.

As I said before, there is too much good in life, to let worry and frustration about your teeth get in the way.

I’ll be happy to answer your questions – or have you come in and give you a Free 7 Point Consultation and Recommended Action Plan – without obligation of any kind.

Here’s one last point:  I know that many consumers are skeptical about dentists. I’m skeptical as well. So in addition to dedicating my practice to consumer education, I do one more thing as well.

I guarantee my work. That’s right.  I fully guarantee every procedure we do for three years.

    My Personal Guarantees!

And then crowns, porcelain veneers, implant restorations and onlays, I guarantee for the rest of the time I’m in practice (with the exception of new decay, gum disease or trauma. As long as you come in for your cleanings and treatments as recommended. I stand behind what I do, and put my money where your mouth is.

If you like our service (like over 1000 of your neighbors already do) then I want to provide you with high quality, affordable dental care for years to come. If you don’t’ then just let us know and we will send your x-rays to any dentist you choose. I am confident that if any other dentist used the same high technology I use and attend the same advanced education courses, and then he/she will agree with our recommended treatment!

The only way you can get A Stronger Bite With More Comfortable, and Confident, Teeth Quickly, Easily, minimal Anxiety- with minimal Discomfort is by calling and finding out what your options are. Please call today while this is fresh on your mind, and be amazed at how quickly (in most instances) we can have you loving your smile.

    Gum Disease and Heart Attacks

    November 5th, 2009
Gum Disease and Heart Attacks—Is There a Connection?
There is growing evidence that the presence of periodontal (gum) disease can be linked to the incidence of coronary heart disease.

Gums infected with periodontal disease are toxic reservoirs of disease-causing bacteria. The bacteria hide in pockets next to the teeth, where the gums have pulled away from the tooth surface. When gums are this infected, they frequently bleed.

Researchers at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis recently discovered that bleeding gums common in severe gum disease provide an open doorway for plaque bacteria to enter the bloodstream. This bacteria, Streptococcus sanguis, can cause blood clots that block arteries and trigger heart attacks.

“Severe periodontitis is the equivalent of about nine square inches of chronic wound around the teeth,” said Dr. Mark Herzberg, director of the study. “It offers considerable opportunity over time for these bacteria to enter the blood.”

In the study, researchers injected the plaque bacteria into rabbits’ veins and then monitored their hearts. Clots formed immediately, and within 30 minutes, the blood flow to the rabbits’ hearts was reduced, reported Herzberg.

Researchers caution that they don’t know whether these results can be reproduced in humans. Nevertheless, this emerging research strengthens the strong link between poor dental health and heart disease.

    More heartache from gum disease

Other studies have shown that plaque bacteria entering the bloodstream through infected gums might also cause a potentially fatal heart disease called infective endocarditis. This is a bacterial infection that causes the sac around the heart to become inflamed. Herzberg has shown that the S. sanguis plaque bacteria is one of the most frequent causes of endocarditis.

    More than just speculation

In a study of 400 older men, researchers in Michigan found that those with severe gum disease were four and one-half times more likely to have coronary heart disease than those without gum disease.

The University of Michigan study, conducted by Dr. Walter Loesche, analyzed a sample of 400 men in long-term care at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. All men were over 60 years of age, and those whose gum disease correlated with heart disease had bleeding from nearly every tooth and had 14 or fewer teeth remaining.

Findings from the same study also revealed a possible relationship between regular dental exams and a reduced risk of stroke. “Patients who saw a dentist at least once a year were four times less likely to have a history of (stroke),” Loesche said.

The lesson to be learned? Brush, floss, and see your dentist regularly. Because we now know that good oral health can prevent more than just gum disease.

Whether you want a Dream Smile or you just want small improvements that are subtle, but you can truly enjoy deep down in your heart.

The other day, I was talking to Ms. Kim Smith from my neighborhood. Now, Kim has lived in the Chicago area for a long time, but never came into my office until recently.

In fact, she had grown up with such bad teeth and so many dental problems that she ‘gave up’ on thinking that she could ever do something about her smile. But for some reason, she saw an article in the local paper and decided to give us a call.

Anyhow, in two short visits, Kim walked out of here with a smile that was so sparkling and confidence building that it brought a tear (which she tried to hide) to her eyes.

The next day, Kim and her husband  came in with freshly baked cookies and a bottle of wine for my husband and I.

I tell you this, because stories like these excite and motivate my staff and I, and happen all the time! We absolutely LOVE giving great care to people and can’t wait to send you out into the world with a smile that others compliment, envy, and admire!

In fact, the reason I bring it up, is that so many of my happy patients had tried those “miracle” solutions to their stained, discolored, twisted, or crooked smile to only find they were unimpressed, frustrated, and felt misled by those commercials.

What I’m talking about may sound too good to be true, but that is why, before I’m done speaking with you today, you’ll realize you CAN have the smile you’ve always dreamed of, and you how you can do it affordably and almost INSTANTLY! Some Patients Even Say They “Feel”

Like They Are 20 Years Younger…

    Their Spouses Are Ecstatic!

Of course, with dramatic improvements like this, it’s only natural to be skeptical. That is sounds too good to be true… and I have to admit that when I was going through my clinical and continuous education courses, I thought these guys were nuts.

But what doesn’t lie, are the thousands of success stories that have come through our office. But when you come into our office you’ll see pictures of ecstatic patients who came in with every imaginable problem!

    Cavity Free Kids

“11 Secrets for Raising Cavity Free Children!”

If you have kids, you know that introducing them to new things can be fun, challenging, exciting, frustrating, and so much more all that the same time!

Back when I was a kid, we grew up almost expecting to have cavities when we went to the dentist. Having the doctor pry, poke, and drill for an hour or so was normal.

However, that is not the case anymore! Times have changed!

Today, in our society, there are many benefits our children have, that we didn’t have when we were younger. For example, one of the great benefits is that kids today are growing up with fluoride in the water. People are becoming more aware of the importance of dental hygiene and parents know that they need to bring their children to the dentist.

I made this simple special report to give you a couple quick, helpful tips that you can use to help your child grow up with healthy teeth, and prevent as many dental problems as possible.

11 Secrets for Raising Cavity Free Kids?

    1. 1. Begin cleaning your baby’s mouth with a clean gauze pad the first week the child is brought home from the hospital. Although most babies don’t have any teeth until about six months of age, a daily cleaning will get your child accustomed to the process, and ensure clean and healthy gums when the teeth do come in.
    1. 2. By starting early, your baby is more likely to accept your cleaning her teeth later, when it is necessary to prevent tooth decay. Incorporate a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste (about half a pea sized amount) into the routine by the time your child reaches 18 months, or at the time their first molars come in.
    1. 3. Your child’s first visit to the dentist should be by the age of three. Although baby teeth will eventually fall out, they are very important to your child’s dental development. The muscles of their mouth and jaw form around the foundation laid by their first set of teeth. The baby teeth also maintain space which will help guide the permanent teeth into a favorable position as they erupt. The dentist can make sure your child’s dental develop-ment is proceeding normally as early as their third birthday and with checkups every six months thereafter.
    2. 4. Stop your child’s thumb sucking habits before their permanent teeth come in. Sucking on a thumb or pacifier is a natural and satisfying behavior for babies. However, the habit can alter the position of baby’s developing teeth, and even deform the bone which supports the teeth, if it continues after their permanent teeth begin to erupt. Fortunately, the damage is usually self-correcting, unless your youngster continues the habit much past the age of six. If you are having trouble getting your child to stop sucking their thumbs, we can offer some advice.
    1. 5. Make sure your child gets the benefits of the latest in cavity prevention, including fluorides and sealants.
    1. 6. Our office has the ability to check for cavities that hide from traditional methods of detection. By using an instrument called the DIAGNADENT we can see inside the grooves of the tooth were cavities can hide. This can help prevent pain from undetected cavities and save you money.
    1. 7. Do not give your child a bottle at night with juice or milk. If your child must have a bottle at bedtime, dilute it progressively each night with water until the bedtime bottle contains only water. You may also use a pacifier, but remember to follow the above-mentioned advice.
    1. 8. If your child uses pacifier, don’t dip it in any sweetener. Some dentist  have taught this in the past and it is not a good idea!

    1. 9. If you live in a community where there is NO fluoride in the drinking water, use a fluoride rinse or buy bottled water that has fluoride. Children in communities without fluoridated water should also have supplemental fluoride drops or tablets, which can be prescribed by a dentist.

    10. You need to help a child under age of 7 years old do the brushing. Studies show that children under 7 do not have the dexterity to do a good job. One great strategy if you have a child, who likes to do everything on their own, is to let them do it first on their own. Then say that it’s mommy or daddy’s turn. I know that there are children who will fight you on brushing, but stick with it because the rewards will be huge.

    11. Beware of habitual and prolonged soda, juice, sports drinks, iced tea, or any other repetitive sugary snacks or candies. It is much better to have your child eat candy or sugar quickly and let their body respond to the sugar instead of frequently snacking on sugar – a habit that will cause rampant tooth decay. Many people do not know this important fact – DIET SODA IS JUST AS BAD FOR YOUR TEETH AS SUGAR!!! The acidity of the diet soda will do just as much damage as sugar.

    12. Finally, the most important thing to realize is that children learn the behavior they observe. So, the reality is your dental health is just as important as your child’s. Recent research has shown that unhealthy gums can put you at much higher risk for the following problems:

    High Blood Pressure (Arteriosclerosis)

    Stroke

    Heart Attack

    Heart Infection (Bacterial Endocarditis)

    Pancreatic Cancer

    Low Birth-Weight Babies

    Diabetes

    COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

    Adult Flouride Treatments

    November 4th, 2009

    Can Adults Benefit From Fluoride?

New research shows that everyone can benefit from fluoride. Experts used to think that fluoride worked mainly by strengthening teeth while they were still developing. This meant that children were the focus of fluoridation efforts. Studies now show that topical fluoride helps fight decay in people of all ages.

Fluoride is the most effective agent available to help prevent tooth decay. It is mineral that is naturally present in varying amounts in some foods and water supplies. The benefits of fluoride have been well known for over 50 years and are supported by many health and professional organizations.

Although most people receive fluoride from food and water, sometimes it is not enough to help prevent decay. We may recommend professional fluoride treatments for the following reasons:

    • Deep pits and fissures on the chewing surfaces of teeth.
    • Exposed and sensitive root surfaces (which are 9 times softer than the crown surface)
    • Fair to poor oral hygiene habits.
    • Frequent sugar, carbohydrate intake and citric acid intake.
    • Inadequate exposure to fluorides.
    • Inadequate saliva flow due to medical conditions, medical treatments or medications.
    • Recent history of dental decay.
    • To preserve existing dental work.

Remember, fluoride alone will not prevent tooth decay! It is important to brush at least twice a day. Floss regularly, eat balanced meals, reduce sugary snacks, and visit our office as recommended.

    Computer Guided Dental Implants

    October 27th, 2009
Simplant (CAT Scan)Traditional dental x-rays most often do not provide sufficient information on the shape and amount of bone to predict the prosthetic outcome of implant treatment.

    Tooth Decay

    July 30th, 2009
Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or cavity, is a disease where bacterial processes damage hard tooth structure (enamel, dentin and cementum). These tissues progressively break down, producing dental cavities (holes in the teeth). If left untreated, the disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, infection, and, in severe cases, death.  Today, tooth decay remains one of the most common diseases throughout the world.

Tooth decay is caused by specific types of acid-producing bacteria which

cause damage in the presence of fermentable carbohydrates such as sucrose,

    fructose, and glucose

Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of tooth structure. Instead, dental health organizations advocate preventive and prophylactic measures, such as regular oral hygiene and dietary modifications, to avoid dental tooth decay.

Though more than 95% of trapped food is left packed between teeth after every meal or snack, over 80% of cavities develop inside pits and fissures in grooves on chewing surfaces where the brush cannot reach and there is no access for saliva and fluoride to neutralize acid and remineralize demineralized tooth. Few cavities occur where saliva has easy access.

Cosmetic dentists in Chicago can perform these procedures to accommodate your needs.

    Afraid?

    July 30th, 2009

    afraid

“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind.” Dale Carnegie

Shocking stats: It is estimated that as many as 75% of US adults experience some degree of dental fear, from mild to severe. Approximately 5 to 10 percent of U.S. adults are considered to experience dental phobia; that is, they are so fearful of receiving dental treatment that they avoid dental care at all costs.
Many dentally fearful people will only seek dental care when they have a dental emergency, such as a toothache or dental abscess. People who are very fearful of dental care often experience a “cycle of avoidance,” in which they avoid dental care due to fear until they experience a dental emergency requiring invasive treatment, which can reinforce their fear of dentistry.
Women tend to report more dental fear than men, and younger people tend to report being more dentally fearful than older individuals. People tend to report being more fearful of more invasive procedures, such as oral surgery, than they are of less invasive treatment, such as professional dental cleanings, or prophylaxis…

Don’t let fear grip you… You’ll regret it if you don’t.

When you visit Dr. Fry You will find a warm and welcoming environment.

“Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others.”

"What You Must Never Do When Getting Cosmetic Work Done!"

    July 30th, 2009
Ok, so here’s the scenario… you tell a Cosmetic Dentist what changes you’d like to see with your smile…How do they respond?
A common mistake is not gathering all the facts. Make sure your Cosmetic Dentists explains all of your options before you make a decision.
Some Cosmetic Dentists will try and get you to commit to the most expensive treatments to fatten their pocketbooks, others are going to give you the perfect solution which may also cost more than you expected… but unfortunately many people don’t question what a Cosmetic Dentist tells them…be different. Ask questions. However, if you find someone you trust, you can know they are giving you the correct solutions and advise. This is why it’s so important to find someone you can trust and feel comfortable with.
Many people think some Cosmetic Dentists are out for a big pay day. And some may be. But this is not the norm. Keep in mind that there are many Cosmetic Dentists in Chicago out there that put the best needs of their patients first! These dentists will provide you with a good range of options to choose from, rather than recommending the most expensive treatment even though it’s not needed… and these are the Cosmetic Dentists you want to book your treatment with.
If you tell the Cosmetic Dentist you’d like a whiter, brighter smile, and the dentist simply recommends costly veneers without giving you any other options, you may have a problem. Why? Well, veneers may be an great solution for someone who wants a whiter, brighter smile. They’re also the most invasive and expensive procedure… so ask yourself: Did the dentist let you know about other options such as whitening trays or laser whitening?

Is it the right thing to do?

    July 30th, 2009

    “Many People Think It’s The

    ‘Right Thing To Do -

    Don’t Make The Same Mistake!”

Many people think shopping around is what everyone should do when they make a purchase. And I agree, shopping around is good, however, it’s also a major factor in procrastination. If you were thinking about buying a new house, would you buy the first one a real estate agent showed you? Probably not… Unless you knew it was the perfect house for you!

Well, the same goes for choosing a Cosmetic Dentist!

Just like your home, your smile is something you “live in” day in and day out, 24 hours a day, seven days a week… and before you commit to a particular Cosmetic Dentist, you need to do your homework and “shop around”. Here are some helpful hints to choose the right Cosmetic Dentist for you! When you meet with Dr. Fry, take note of the environment:Do you feel comfortable asking them questions, or do you feel rushed? How clean is the facility? What are the staff like?

Keep your eyes open and take in everything you can…

Also, most Cosmetic Dentists should have a book on display of before-and-after pictures of their patients… if you don’t see this available, don’t be afraid to ask for it.

… Most Cosmetic Dentists are proud to show their work to prospective patients!

It’s also wise to ask for permission to contact two or three past patients to find out what their experience with the Cosmetic Dentist was like.

Are they happy with their results? Did they have any complications or other problems after their procedure? If so, how did the dentist respond? These are all excellent things to find out. Once you feel comfortable, go for it!
